Legal

Terms

Last updated 3 September 2026. These terms cover buying and using a GetReviewX licence.

GetReviewX is a WordPress plugin, licensed under the GPL, sold with a licence key that buys you updates and support. Those two facts pull in different directions often enough that it is worth setting out plainly what you are buying, what you keep, and what we are responsible for.

The short version

  • Your key buys updates, downloads and support for the term, on the number of sites your plan allows.
  • The plugin is GPLv2 or later. You can read the code, change it and keep running it.
  • An expired licence does not disable anything. You keep the version you have — updates, downloads and support stop.
  • 14 days to change your mind, no reason needed.
  • Google can change or withdraw API access at any time. That part is not in our hands.
  • We are not affiliated with Google.

1.Who this agreement is between

These terms are between you and TheDevGarden, the maker and seller of GetReviewX. “We”, “us” and “our” mean TheDevGarden. “You” means the person or business buying or using a licence.

You accept these terms when you buy a licence or activate a key. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company or a client, you confirm you are allowed to do so on their behalf.

How we handle data is a separate document — see the privacy policy. The short version is that your reviews stay on your own server.

2.What a licence buys

A licence key is your access to our services for the term you paid for, normally twelve months from purchase. For that term it gives you:

  • the right to download the current release of the plugin, whenever you need it
  • automatic updates delivered inside WordPress, including compatibility fixes, security fixes and new features released during the term
  • email support from us about the plugin
  • activation on the number of sites your plan allows

The activation limits are:

  • Single site — 1 site.
  • 5 sites — 5 sites.
  • Unlimited sites — Unlimited.

Staging, development and local copies do not count against your activations. The plugin detects them and lets them run alongside the live site they belong to.

Activations are movable. You can free one up from inside WordPress at GetReviewX → Settings → Licence, or ask us to release one if the site is already gone. There is more on that on your account page.

3.The plugin is GPLv2 or later

GetReviewX is WordPress software and is licensed to you under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or (at your option) any later version. A copy of that licence ships with the plugin. This is not a marketing line; it changes what you are allowed to do with the code.

Under the GPL you may:

  • read and modify the source code, which is not obfuscated or encoded
  • run the code on as many sites as you like, for as long as you like
  • redistribute it, modified or not, provided you pass on the same GPL rights and the source

What the licence key covers is different, and it is worth keeping the two apart. The GPL governs the code. The key governs the services we provide around it: downloads from our servers, automatic updates and support. The activation limit is a limit on those services for a given key, not a limit on your right to run the software.

4.What happens when a licence expires

Nothing is deleted and nothing is uninstalled. You keep the copy of the plugin you already have, indefinitely, under the GPL, along with your settings, your curation choices and your layouts.

When a licence stops being valid, straight away:

  • review syncing stops
  • automatic updates stop, including compatibility and security releases
  • the plugin's settings screens lock, and its widgets are no longer offered in Elementor or the block editor
  • email support ends

Your reviews keep showing on your pages for a further seven days. That window exists so a card that expires on a Friday does not take your homepage down with it. After it passes, the widgets and shortcodes display a short licence notice in place of your reviews until the licence is valid again.

The seven days are counted from the last time we successfully confirmed your licence, never from a failed check. If our licence server is unreachable the plugin treats your licence as valid and keeps retrying, so our downtime cannot take your reviews down.

Renewing restores everything immediately, and the update appears in WordPress on the next check.

5.Renewals, cancellation and price

Licences are sold as annual subscriptions and renew automatically until you cancel. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not end the term you have already paid for, which runs to its end date.

You cancel in the billing portal run by Dodo Payments, reachable from your account page. You do not need to ask us, and you do not need to give a reason.

A renewal is charged at the price shown for your subscription in that portal. If we change the price of a plan, an existing subscription is not repriced without notice to you before the renewal date.

6.Refunds

You can have your money back within 14 days of a purchase. Email [email protected] with the licence key or the email you bought with, and ask. You do not have to explain why. The same 14-day window applies to a renewal charge as to a first purchase.

Refunds are processed by Dodo Payments as merchant of record, back to the payment method you used. How quickly it appears is up to your bank, not us.

When a refund is issued, the licence ends: the key stops activating sites, updates and downloads stop, and support ends. Under the GPL you may keep and use the copy of the code you already have — but you are no longer entitled to the services described in section 2.

If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK

You have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days. For digital content delivered immediately, that right normally ends once download begins and you have acknowledged it — which is what happens when you take the plugin at checkout. We do not rely on that: the 14-day refund above is offered whether or not you have downloaded and installed the plugin. Nothing in this section limits any statutory right you have that cannot be limited by agreement.

7.Acceptable use

This is the short list of things not to do. You agree not to:

  • share, resell or publish your licence key, or use one key on more sites than your plan allows
  • use a key to build a service that proxies our update or download endpoints for other people
  • probe, overload, scrape or attack our update, download or connect endpoints, or automate abusive volumes of requests against them
  • display reviews you do not have the right to display, or use the plugin to fabricate reviews, alter the text of a real review, or misrepresent a rating
  • strip the disclosure the plugin adds when you filter reviews by rating — it is there because Google requires it
  • use the plugin for anything unlawful, or in a way that puts your visitors at risk

Redistributing the plugin code under the GPL is not a breach of this section. Redistributing a licence key is, because a key is our service credential rather than part of the software.

If a key is clearly being abused we may suspend it. Where we reasonably can, we will email you first and give you the chance to sort it out.

8.Google data and Google’s own terms

The reviews GetReviewX displays come from Google, through the Google Business Profile API, using access you granted with your own Google account. That content is Google’s and your use of it is subject to Google’s terms and policies as well as these.

Some of those obligations pass through to you:

  • Keep the attribution the plugin renders — reviewer name, photo and the Google source.
  • Do not edit the text of a review. You may choose which reviews to show; you may not rewrite what somebody said.
  • Do not keep Google’s content longer than its terms allow. The plugin enforces this for you with a 25-day purge; do not work around it.
  • Leave the rating-filter disclosure in place when you show only part of your reviews.

Google may change its API, its terms, its rate limits or its approval requirements at any time, and it may restrict or withdraw access to a particular application or account. That is outside our control. If it happens, syncing may slow, change or stop, and that alone is not a breach of this agreement by us. We will tell you what we know and adapt the plugin where we reasonably can.

9.We are not affiliated with Google

GetReviewX is an independent product of TheDevGarden. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or certified by Google. Google, Google Business Profile and Google Maps are trademarks of Google LLC, used here only to describe what the plugin connects to.

Nothing we sell can influence your Google listing, your ranking, your reviews on Google, or how Google displays them. The plugin shows your reviews on your own site. That is all it does.

10.Your site is your responsibility

The plugin runs on hosting you control. Keeping that install healthy is your job, not ours: WordPress and PHP versions, other plugins, your theme, your backups and your administrator accounts.

Take a backup before you update anything, including us. If an update goes wrong we will help you work out why, but we cannot restore a site we have no access to.

You are also responsible for handling lawfully the personal data the plugin stores on your site — reviewer names, photos and review text. See section 10 of the privacy policy for why that responsibility sits with you.

11.What support covers

Support is by email, in English, at [email protected], for the length of your licence term. It covers the plugin: installing it, connecting Google, syncing, the curation board, the layouts, the shortcodes and widgets, and bugs.

It does not cover:

  • custom development, custom CSS or building your site for you
  • fixing bugs in your theme or in other people’s plugins, though we will help identify a conflict
  • problems with your hosting, your Google account or your Business Profile listing
  • training on WordPress itself

We aim to reply within two business days, and usually do it sooner. We do not offer a guaranteed response time, and we would rather say that plainly than write a promise we cannot keep.

12.Availability of our services

The update, download and licence endpoints are provided on a reasonable-efforts basis. We do not offer an uptime guarantee for them.

If they are down, your site is unaffected: the plugin keeps running and keeps displaying what it has. What is delayed is a download, an update check or an activation, until the service is back.

13.Changes to the plugin and to these terms

We develop the plugin continuously. Features are added, changed and occasionally removed between releases. You are never forced to take an update: you keep the version you have, and you decide when to move.

We may change these terms. When we do, the date at the top changes and the new version is published here. If a change is material we will email current licence holders rather than rely on you noticing. Continuing to use the licence after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not want them, you can cancel and, within the refund window, ask for your money back.

14.No warranty

The plugin is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, that it will work with every theme, plugin or host, that it will meet a particular requirement of yours, or that Google will keep providing the data it depends on. The GPL under which the code is licensed carries its own disclaimer of warranty, and it applies as well.

Nothing here excludes or limits anything that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited: liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any statutory right you have as a consumer.

15.Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profits, loss of revenue, loss of business, loss of goodwill, loss or corruption of data, or the cost of getting substitute software, however caused.

Our total liability to you for all claims connected with GetReviewX, taken together, is limited to the amount you paid us for the licence in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Section 14 applies to this section too.

16.Ending the agreement

You can end it at any time: cancel the subscription, deactivate the licence on your sites, and uninstall the plugin if you want it gone.

We can end it if you materially breach these terms — most realistically the acceptable-use section — and do not put it right after we have asked you to. If we terminate for breach, no refund is due, unless the law says otherwise.

When the agreement ends, the licence key stops working for downloads, updates and support. Your right to keep using the copy of the code you already hold comes from the GPL and survives.

17.Governing law and disputes

The governing law and the courts that would hear a dispute are being confirmed and will be stated here. Until they are, nothing in this section takes away a right you have to bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live, or the protection of the consumer law that applies there.

Before anyone involves a court, email [email protected]. Most things that look like a dispute turn out to be a misunderstanding about activations or a renewal, and are fixed the same day.

18.General

  • These terms, the privacy policy and the plan details on the pricing page are the whole agreement between us about the licence.
  • If a clause turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force and that clause is read as narrowly as it needs to be.
  • If we do not enforce something straight away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.
  • You may not transfer a licence to another person without asking us first — email us and we will usually say yes and move it for you.
  • We may transfer this agreement if the business is sold, provided your rights under it are not reduced.
  • Nobody who is not a party to this agreement can enforce it.

19.Contact

Questions about anything on this page go to [email protected]. Include your licence key or the email address you bought with if the question is about your account.

GetReviewX requires WordPress 6.0+ and PHP 7.4+, and is distributed under GPLv2 or later. Payments are handled by Dodo Payments as merchant of record.
